The meeting opened, welcoming Peggy as a new member.
Dues were for the 2026 calendar-year membership.
Comments for last month's movie, "Pirate Radio" (aka "The Boat that Rocked") were solicited.
We were in favor of continuing to ask for any final comments about the previous month's movie, in case someone in attendance was not able to attend the month the movie was discussed.
Sally will lead the March 3rd 10th meeting's movie, "The First Wives Club" (1996), in tribute to Diane Keaton, who recently passed away. (Please note date change.)
Laurie will be traveling, so Bill will be leading the meeting.
We discussed our club rule about viewing horror movies and the annual discussion of the Best Picture Oscar winner.
There is a good chance that “Sinners" could win the Oscar, as it’s highly nominated (most nominations ever!).
We discussed what to do if it wins. It was voted on and was resolved as an exception to the rule, and we will discuss “Sinners" in April if it wins.
Here is the list of the 10 nominated films in the Best Picture category:
Bugonia
F1
Frankenstein
Hamnet
Marty Supreme
One Battle After Another
The Secret Agent
Sentimental Value
Sinners
Train Dreams
For our May meeting, we will be renting the JEMS theatre in CAT to screen a Rob Reiner film in tribute to his recent passing.
This meeting will be on May 5.
We the determine the film by club survey. We will discuss the nominees at a future meeting.
Note: The Cinema Art Theater will be showing Best Picture Nominees before the Oscars.
This is a great chance to see any you may have missed before the big night!
We are working on getting this semester's complete schedule of Marty Rosensweig’s OLLI class films being screened at the CAT.
The screenings are shown on Tuesdays at 2 pm in the main theater of the Cinema Art Theater.
Our members are welcome to attend.
A page listing the 2026 meeting dates has been added to the website.
We discussed a double-feature of Robert Redford films.
"The Sting" (1973) was led by Laurie, and "Sneakers" (1992) was led by Bill.
The movies represented two different stages of Redford's career.
"The Sting" is a beloved film from early in his career, and the club enjoyed a chance to revisit this classic.
"Sneakers" was a first-time viewing for many of the members and was enjoyed, showing that Redford had lost none of his charm in the almost twenty years between the films.
See you at March's meeting!
